Single-event effect testing of the PNI RM3100 magnetometer for space applications

Abstract. The results of a destructive single-event effect susceptibility radiation test the PNI RM3100 magnetometer sensor, specifically MagI2C ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) on sensor board are presented. is low-resource commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) magneto-inductive magnetometer. device was monitored for events and functional interruptions during exposure to heavy ion beam at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's 88′′ Cyclotron. did not experience any effects when irradiated total fluence 1.4 × 107 cm−2 an effective linear energy transfer (LET) 76.7 MeV cm2 mg−1 while operated nominal voltage (3.3 V) elevated temperature (85 ∘C). When these combined with previous ionizing dose tests showing no failures up 150 kRad (Si), we conclude that extremely tolerant can be used in variety space environments.
